It seems that magazines are always on the national stage when it comes to the debate on gun control legislation, and there are always forces focused on restricting “standard” capacity magazines to some arbitrary number in the name of public safety. It is not my intention to turn MSW into a political forum, so let me just point out that in an autoloading pistol, the magazine is a critical component. Without a magazine, our fancy modern service pistol is nothing more than a sophisticated single shot.
On the Internet forums, there is much discussion on what is the “best” magazine for various pistols or rifles, especially the M4/AR15. As shooters, many of us find ourselves forming an emotional bond with our magazines and forget that the magazine is a consumable. It should be inspected regularly, and if it is damaged or otherwise out of spec, it should be discarded.
So with this in mind, it is important to have plenty of spares on hand. Only a year ago, panic buying sent the industry into a frenzy and magazines were scarce. What was available commanded premium prices. Thankfully, things have quieted down for now, but rest assured the rush will happen again, so be prepared.
One of our favorite vendors for common magazines is 44mag.com. They’ve been in the industry for a while and Hilton and I have known the owner since the 10-8forums days. They have a solid history of competitive prices, fast processing, inexpensive shipping, and excellent customer service. When I am looking for magazines, this is the first place I look before any other. I highly recommend you give them a visit if you are in need of a feeding device for your modern service weapon.

I have bought a lot from them. Great company and seem to have a selection of most items all i none place. Good prices too.
Near the end of last year, they selling M&P mags at $99/each when they were scarce. They even parted out M&Ps (selling frame, slides, grips separately) just to get the mags to sell at those ridiculous prices. They were in on that panic selling as well too.
Guess what, when a business can’t get restocks due to demand and supply, they have to sell for market value.
Not while others (many) were keeping the prices just slightly above what they were before. 44 mag was the talk of MANY forums for the craziness they pulled during the panic. No one I shoot with will ever use them again, so they say.
I’ve used them for a long time and have always been satisfied. When the 1911 was my main carry gun I purchased most of my magazines from them. The free shipping was nice. Highly recommend 44mag.com.
I’ll definitely give them a look. I was disappointed with a recent magazine order from a large seller in Iowa. They have M&P mags improperly packaged and labeled, so smaller capacity was received. They have been shipped back, but I don’t know if I’ll order from them again.
GREAT REMINDER…been buying two high-caps for my Glock 19 and an additional 200 rounds of 9mm ball and some hollow-points every time I get paid. Glock 19 mags are a great reload to a Glock 26, but I’m telling you nothing that you already don’t know…Code-4
