SIG SAUER announces the release of a factory P220 in 10mm

As first reported midweek by SIGforum.com, SIG Sauer has announced that a 10mm version of their venerable P220 will be released at the SHOT Show in January.

The fascination with a 10mm P220 first started with Bruce Gray of Grayguns, Inc, who accepted a challenge that the P220 10mm conversion “couldn’t be done”.  Bruce made limited conversion runs of all steel P220 .45 ACP pistols to 10mm.  This was a painstaking task as it took quite a bit to get the pistol chambered in .45 ACP to run the 10mm reliably.

The P220/10 will be have both SAO and DA/SA configurations, and will be available in 4.25 and 5 inch lengths.  It will be based upon their all steel P220 Elite series of pistols as it is being reported.

  1. The 10 is such an underrated cartridge. I wish more gun and ammo manufactures would support it.

… Same goes for the 5.7 and the .45GAP.

    • The 5.7x28mm is.. underrated? How so? It’s almost a ballistic clone of the .22WMR and the versions loaded with civilian-legal bullets do nothing spectacular, unless you think under-penetration is spectacular.

.45 GAP is just a slightly shorter .45 ACP to make sales in countries like Mexico (where “military calibers” are illegal) easier. In practical terms, there’s less point in the continued existence of .45 GAP than there is for .45 ACP.

      • 5.7 and “civillan load” is like a 10mm with a .40 load. Pointless… yes. On the other side… 🙂

The .45 GAP is like a .380 size with the 9mm power. In true single stack it doesn’t matter much. When you stagger is when the difference becomes obvious.

  2. As a serious fan of the 10mm Auto cartridge, I’m thrilled to read this story. My current stable of 10mm’s may have a new playmate.

  3. I am not sure what to think about this. I have always thought of the full power 10mm as being the .41mag of the auto world in regards to interest. Unless you want a full power, flat shooting semi-auto that kicks hard and is hard to find ammo for there really is no use for the 10mm to my mind. That being said the 10mm has stuck around, just like the .41mag so there must be a niche out there for it.

  4. Can’t wait till they do this in P227. You know, for the extra capacity and all.

    There. Someone said it.

  5. Great…another weapon I will feel compelled to buy, for no other reason than I MUST HAVE IT!!! Sorry kids, no college fund…

  6. p227 seems like it would have made more sense, why give it the double stack capacity especially since its a smaller round diameter wise.
