Photo of the Day: Glock 17 RTF with Mods

Some ATEi and Sentinel Design love on Tim’s Glock 17 RTF.

This Glock 17 RTF serves as the test platform for my RMR 07. Though Hilton, Erick, and other 10-8 crew have gone through more RMRs in the past several months than underwear, I wanted to put some time in on the concept so I don’t go the way of the Blackberry (remember those?)

Note that most of the folks that comment about how their RMR’s are working just fine appear to only have low round counts through the platform, or don’t really shoot them at all. I will report back at 1000 round intervals assuming the optic holds up that long.

  1. I know ATEi and Sentinel Design’s work well. Both are excellent companies who do excellent work. No surprise Tim chose them to work on his pistol.

Regarding the RMR- We see a high number of them in Michigan (where Trijicon and ATEi are both based) and I have seen more reliable ones than unreliable ones. My personal RMR (an EARLY RMR01) took a dive right around 20k rounds. It was used and abused as a test bed by a previous owner and has not been treated gently by me. Trijicon replaced the internals and it is working fine again.

My new RMR06 is also performing quite well with about 1000 rounds on it.

  2. While I have a RMR 07 and have no issues with it, I only have about 100 rounds on it.
My gun was a FNP-45 Tactical that I just sold, so the sight will sit dormant for a while until I get something else to run it on. But I have read on another forum that they are experiencing a high failure rate. What is failing on them? Keep your readers up to date in the RMR’s issues. This is why we read all these web sights.
